Alzein Pediatrics: A Case Study

Real results from real clients — a look at the SEO and link building work behind the numbers.

Alzein Pediatrics

Alzein Pediatrics was a pediatric medical practice led by Dr. Hassan Alzein, serving families across Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn, Illinois, with locations for primary pediatric care, specialty services, and urgent care. Nelson Internet Marketing worked with Alzein Pediatrics for six and a half years, from September 2019 through April 2026, making it one of the longest-running client relationships in the agency’s history.

The Challenge

When the engagement started in 2019, Alzein Pediatrics needed to stand out in a competitive local healthcare market across two office locations plus an urgent care line, against established competitors like Pediatrics On Demand and Dr. George Kids. The goal was straightforward: get found first by parents searching for pediatric care, vaccines, and urgent visits in Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn — and stay there.

Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn are suburbs inside the Chicago metro area, one of the largest and most saturated healthcare markets in the country. Ranking a local practice there meant competing not just against a handful of nearby offices, but against dozens of pediatric groups, urgent care chains, and hospital-system-backed clinics all targeting the same families in the same zip codes. Throughout the engagement, Alzein Pediatrics was tracked directly against competitors like Pediatrics On Demand, Dr. George Kids, Midwest Express Clinic, and Southwest Pediatrics — and stayed in the top spot against every one of them, for the entire six and a half years. In a market that dense, holding the #1 position for high-value searches year after year, rather than just breaking onto page one, was the hard part.

What We Did

  • Local SEO: Ongoing on-page optimization across service pages, location pages, and blog content for all practice locations (Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn, and Urgent Care).
  • Google Business Profile management: Continuous optimization of GBP listings for all locations — service descriptions, Q&A, photos, and posts — monitored monthly for over six years straight.
  • Link building & digital PR: Consistent outreach and content placement on external sites to build authority, with new live links landing almost every month of the engagement, from health and parenting sites like guidelineshealth.com and fivelittledoves.com in the early years to wealthysinglemommy.com in the final month of the contract.
  • Rank tracking & reporting: Monthly reports tracking rankings across close to 300 keywords, competitive positioning, and traffic trends, adapting strategy as search evolved, including the shift toward Google’s AI Overview results in later years.

The Results

By the numbers, from the final year of the engagement:

  • Organic traffic up 63% year-over-year (30,348 sessions year-to-date)
  • Total site traffic up 35.6% year-over-year (47,857 sessions year-to-date)
  • 219 of 290 tracked keywords ranking in the top 10 of Google search results
  • Consistently ranked above every local competitor tracked, for the entire engagement

When the engagement began in September 2019, the work was starting from scratch — basic on-page optimization and a first couple of link building leads. Growth from there was steady and compounding rather than a single jump: total site traffic was already up 108% year-over-year within the first year, and by the final year organic traffic was still climbing at 63% year-over-year and total traffic at 35.6% year-over-year. Keyword rankings told the same story — from a handful of keywords breaking onto page one in 2019, to 219 of 290 tracked keywords sitting in the top 10 by the time the engagement ended in 2026, with #1 rankings held on the practice’s most valuable search terms for years running.

#1 Rankings That Drive Real Patient Appointments

Rather than chase vanity keywords, the strategy focused on the searches that actually turned into booked visits — vaccine and urgent-care related terms parents searched under time pressure. By the end of the engagement, Alzein Pediatrics held the #1 position, including placement in Google’s AI Overview, for:

  • “flu vaccine for kids,” “kids flu vaccine,” “children’s flu vaccine,” “pediatrician flu vaccine,” and “pediatric flu vaccine”
  • “HPV vaccine” and “HPV vaccination” (Evergreen Park)

This built on years of steady progress — in October 2022, those same flu vaccine terms ranked around #2, and a full slate of telemedicine keywords (“pediatrician on call,” “call a pediatrician,” “pediatric telemedicine,” etc.) had just reached #1 during the COVID-era shift to virtual care, showing the strategy’s ability to move with how patients were actually searching at any given time.

Why It Worked

The single biggest factor was consistency. Alzein Pediatrics received hands-on SEO, content, and link building work every single month for over six years — through algorithm updates, a pandemic, and the shift to AI-powered search — without the strategy ever going stagnant. Rankings were tracked monthly against real competitors, and the game plan was adjusted every time the data called for it.

Adapting Through COVID-19

When the pandemic hit in early 2020, search behavior for pediatric care changed overnight, and the team moved fast to meet it: building out and optimizing a dedicated Telemedicine page as virtual visits became essential, going after COVID-19 testing and vaccine-related search terms as they emerged, and continuing monthly on-page SEO updates straight through the pandemic rather than pausing.

By April 2020, most telemedicine keywords were still not ranking at all. Just six months later, in October 2020, all ten tracked telemedicine keywords — “pediatrician on call,” “call a pediatrician,” “pediatric telemedicine,” and others — had reached the #1 position on Google, and COVID-19 testing terms were ranking on page one as well. Total site traffic was already up 108% year-over-year in that first pandemic year. That telemedicine dominance held for years afterward, and by October 2022 the practice had also picked up top-10 rankings for nine different COVID-19 vaccine search terms as parents started searching for those instead.

The Outcome

Alzein Pediatrics remained the top-ranked pediatric practice in its market across nearly every tracked keyword for the life of the engagement, with organic traffic still climbing in its final year. The contract concluded in May 2026 as the owner wanted to work with a family member instead, and the work for them was just to maintain.
